Terms of Service

Version 2026-08-27, effective 27 August 2026

1. Acceptance

These terms govern your use of Local Portal and its news, directory, marketplace, community, advertising, and account services. By creating an account or using the portal, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the portal.

2. Accounts

You must provide accurate information, keep your login details secure, and promptly update information that changes. You are responsible for activity performed through your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. You must be at least 16 years old, or have permission from a parent or legal guardian, to create an account.

3. Acceptable use

You must not use the portal unlawfully; impersonate another person; harass or threaten others; distribute malware; bypass security or access controls; scrape the service in a way that disrupts it; or post content that is fraudulent, defamatory, infringing, hateful, sexually exploitative, or otherwise harmful. You must not use listings or messages to facilitate prohibited goods, services, or scams.

4. Your content

You retain ownership of content you submit. You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, resize, display, and distribute that content only as needed to operate, promote, secure, and improve the portal. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for backups, legal retention, and content already shared by others.

5. Listings and transactions

Unless we expressly say otherwise, Local Portal provides a venue and is not the buyer, seller, employer, agent, landlord, tenant, or professional service provider in a listing. Users are responsible for checking identities, qualifications, goods, services, prices, and legal obligations before transacting. Paid features may be subject to additional pricing, cancellation, and payment terms shown when purchased.

6. Moderation

We may review, restrict, remove, or preserve content and may warn, suspend, or close accounts where reasonably necessary to enforce these terms, protect users, comply with law, or maintain service integrity. We are not required to monitor all content. You can report suspected abuse through the portal's contact or feedback tools.

7. Privacy and communications

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. We may send service messages needed to operate or secure your account. Marketing messages are optional where required by law and can be unsubscribed from.

8. Availability and third parties

We aim to keep the portal available but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Features may change or be withdrawn. Third-party sites, services, advertisers, and user content are controlled by their respective providers, and their own terms may apply.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable rights under New Zealand consumer law. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss caused by another user, or reliance on user-provided content. If you use the portal for business purposes, consumer guarantees that may lawfully be contracted out of are excluded.

10. Ending use

You may stop using the portal and deactivate your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for a material or repeated breach, a serious security risk, unlawful conduct, or where required by law. Provisions that by their nature should continue after termination remain in effect.

11. Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. We will identify the new version and effective date and provide reasonable notice of material changes. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. New Zealand law governs these terms, and New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction.

12. Contact

Questions, complaints, and legal notices can be submitted through the contact page.
